Courses and Scheduling

Course offering & classroom scheduling within the Office of the Registrar provides a variety of services that include adjustment of course offerings, schedule of classes and assignment of rooms for classes.

The centralized scheduling unit works closely with the colleges to coordinate the scheduling of general access classrooms and auditoriums for academic classes and extracurricular events on campus. Guidelines have been established to ensure appropriate usage of general assignment classrooms and provide a fair distribution across campus departments.

Additional Scheduling Requirements:

  • Departments may schedule no more than 65% of their classes during the prime time period of 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Any class with a start time or end time during this period is considered a prime time class.
  • Once-per-week classes must be paired with the same start time, meeting pattern, and room type. For instance, a class that meets on Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. – 4:20 p.m. must be paired with another class that meets on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. – 4:20 p.m. and can utilize the same room. This will allow for more efficient use of the room space. Exceptions will be made only when a pairing is not applicable. Once-per-week classes must also have a start time that is consistent with the start times of that day’s meeting pattern. For instance, a class on Monday, Wednesday or Friday must begin at one of the designated start times for those days.
  • Classes requesting a Class Time Exception will be assigned a final exam day and time as part of the approval process.
  • Classes which meet once a week and start after 5:00 pm, classes held on Saturday, and classes utilizing laboratory space or special purpose rooms are exempt from this policy and do not need an exception.  However, these classes should have a final exam day, time and room assignment from their dean's office or from the Office of the Registrar.
