2017 Spring All University Commencement Ceremony

May 13, 2017 (8:30 a.m./doors open at 7:15 a.m.) - Bud Walton Arena

During the All-University Commencement Ceremony, only graduate student degree recipients will be individually recognized. All other graduates will be recognized at their respective college's ceremony.

The ceremony will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. in Bud Walton Arena with a pre-ceremony concert featuring the University Wind Symphony beginning at 8:00 a.m. Doors open at 7:15 a.m. and guests should be seated by 8:15 a.m.

All guests will be required to enter through the south entrance of Bud Walton Arena.

Tickets are not required and there is general seating within the arena. All bags will be checked for security purposes so it is recommended that guests plan to arrive early to avoid a delay in reaching their seats.

No wrapped packages, balloons, or strollers are allowed in Bud Walton Arena. Compact umbrellas will be allowed. Click here for a complete list of prohibited items inside the University of Arkansas athletic facilities.

Disabled seating is available on the concourse level which is accessible by elevator. Because there are a limited number of disabled seats, only two additional guests may accompany those utilizing the disabled seating. See below for disabled drop-off and parking information.

Parking

Free parking is available in any unrestricted parking lot on campus. General parking lots nearby Bud Walton Arena include lots 46, 47N, 47S, 56 and 74 (A, B, C and E). Please review the general parking map for these locations.

Disabled drop-off is located at the south entrance of Bud Walton with disabled parking available in lot 60. Please view the disabled parking map for more details.

Student Check-In

Check in for degree candidates is from 7:15 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.   All students and faculty escorts will check in at the West entrance of Bud Walton Arena. All students should be lined up by 8:00 a.m.

It is recommended that students make arrangements with their guests or family members to take care of their personal items such as coats, purses, cameras, flowers, etc., as they cannot be left behind at the check-in tables. Personal items are not allowed in the student line up areas or on the arena floor during the ceremony. Also, please arrive to the ceremony wearing your regalia.

Students with special needs who will require accommodations during the ceremony should contact Amanda Cantu by Friday, May 5th at amandcan@uark.edu, or at 479-575-5809, so that necessary arrangements can be made.

Regalia

Standard student regalia is provided as part of the graduation application fee and distributed by the University Bookstore.

All degree candidates are to arrive dressed in their regalia.

Students who have not picked up their regalia yet can do so at the University Bookstore beginning May 8th. For more details, visit the University Bookstore.

Procession

Only graduate degree recipients will be individually recognized at the spring All-University Commencement Ceremony. Doctoral candidates will be escorted to the stage by their faculty advisor. Once at the platform, students will wait for their name to be announced, then advance across the platform to accept the diploma cover in their left hand as they shake hands with a university official. After accepting the diploma cover, the candidates will proceed across the stage and follow the line to the photography station. Once the candidate has taken a posed photo, they will return to their seat until the ceremony concludes.

Photos

Grad Images will be taking photographs of each graduate and will contact the graduates directly, so please update your FERPA restrictions. You may also contact Grad Images by calling 1-800-261-2576.

Faculty

  • Faculty who are NOT escorting doctoral students should arrive by 8:00 a.m. and enter through the media entrance located on the South side of Bud Walton Arena.
  • Faculty who ARE escorting doctoral students need to go directly to the student check-in tables at the West entrance of Bud Walton Arena. Faculty will line up with their student(s). Check in begins at 7:15 a.m. All faculty and students should be in line by 8:00 a.m. Faculty and students who arrive after 8:00 a.m. will still be able to participate in the ceremony, but may not be able to process into the arena with the rest of the graduating students.
  • General parking is available in lots 56, 73, 73A, Stadium Parking Garage, and the Meadow Street Parking Garage. Disabled parking is available in lots 60 and 62.
  • If you are escorting a graduate, you must contact Amanda Cantu at the Graduate School at amandcan@uark.edu or 479-575-5809 to arrange the appropriate line-up assignment. You will line up and walk with your student, not with the general faculty group.
